Haunted House Template: DIY Halloween Craft
This easy haunted house template is so fun for a halloween craft and it comes with a template/printable PDF!
We love making halloween crafts and wanted something that was bright and fun instead of spooky.
I didn’t really see any haunted house crafts for kids that matched the vibe we wanted, so we made our own!
You can find the printable at the end of this DIY haunted house tutorial.

DIY Haunted House Materials:
Popsicle sticks:
The “bones” of the house. By the way, any and all of these can be found on amazon or Michaels Craft store.
Glue:
A hot glue gun will make this thing indestructible! I recommend one for glueing the popsicle sticks together but every other part you may use a regular glue stick. I used my glue gun for almost everything. (I’m kind of a glue gun fanatic.)
Printer
You’ll need one to print out the graphics in the PDF file at the end of this tutorial. If you don’t have one, you can draw and cut out your own images!
Paint
Choose a color paint for your not so spooky halloween haunted house craft! We used a metallic pink.
Embellishments
This is where it gets fun-If you don’t have any crafty items to put on your house, check out Micheals Craft Store. You can mobile order everything you need and they will have it ready for you to pickup. I love Micheals because they always have a coupon online so be sure to check that as well.
Embellishments for your not so spooky house can be anything you like, from ribbon, confetti, streamers, a cotton ball (to make spider-web), or fabric (to make curtains) you can make this project your own by adding in whatever your festive heart desires.
5 Easy Steps to Make a Haunted House Craft:
1. Glue your popsicle sticks together
We had skinny sticks, so we used 10 sticks for the base and 4 for the roof. But if you have thicker sticks, I would do 8 and 2.

Also, if you see the dried glue all over the place, don’t worry- you’ll be using the non-glued side to decorate.
2. Paint Your Haunted House
There’s no fancy way to do this. But this foam brush is really great for little kids.

3. Add the full moon/witch
We glued a pipe cleaner in between the cutout and another circle, and then glued it onto the back of the house.
If you don’t have a pipecleaner, you can use another popsicle stick!
TIP: Before you glue- Add your curtains in the open space!
Since you’ll be adding your curtains to the back of the house, this should be done before you secure the pipe cleaner.
I skipped this step and the pipe cleaner would not budge after I hot glued it, which made it a bit trickier but nothing I couldn’t work with it.

4. Make a door and a banner for your DIY Halloween Craft
You can use pipe cleaner, ribbon, or yarn for the door. We used a piece of glittered ribbon.
For the banner, we used thin yarn and just glued each letter flag onto it. Easy!

I decided I wanted to paint the door, so I mixed pink and white paint and came up with this pretty color.
If you don’t have paint, you can use markers, or any type of fabric to give the door some depth.

5. Glue on the cutouts
I handed my kiddo the glue stick and let him decide where to put the pumpkin, ghost, and bat.
As you can see, I put the “curtains” on during this step, but it would have been easier at step 2.
I used burlap for this but you can use any fabric, yarn, ribbon, or other material that you want!

I also added some stars to the haunted house craft, as well as streamer. (We ripped little tiny pieces of streamer to glue all over.)
That was definitely the part that gave this house some character.
Oh, and the final touch was some spider webs on the curtains!

How CUTE! We had fun making this easy halloween craft and it is definitley cute enough to display in our office/craft room.
Don’t forget to add the date on the back so years from now you can remember when you made it!

This would also be a cute inexpesnive idea for a teacher, grandparent, or craft to make at a halloween party.
