As a Treasure Coast mom always on the hunt for family-friendly outings, our recent trip to the Jupiter Outdoor Center (JOC) in Jupiter, Florida, was an absolute blast, and one of our favorite local adventures yet!

Nestled in the sprawling Riverbend Park, JOC offers a perfect mix of outdoor excitement and accessibility, making it a must-visit for families in St. Lucie, Martin, and Palm Beach counties. Here’s why our day at JOC was unforgettable, complete with a hyper-local itinerary to maximize your family’s fun in Jupiter Farms.

Our Family’s Day at JOC

On a sunny weekend, we planned to head to Busch Wildlife Sanctuary, but as we drove along Indiantown Road, the sign for Riverbend Park caught my eye since I’ve seen it shared as a good spot for family photos.

The Loxahatchee River Battlefield sign was also in plain sight and they caught my husband’s eye, since he’s a big history buff. But you’re in luck, I won’t get into the Second Seminole War here. Just know you can learn more when you visit!

Jupiter Outdoor Center at Riverbend Park; Bicycles

As we drove around the park we noticed that it was a very well-maintained park. I even said, “wow we gotta come back here and let our son practice riding his bike.” (he’s 4.)

But then, the JOC tiki hut caught our eye, surrounded by colorful bicycles ready for rent. With my kids napping in the car, I pulled into the lot next to this big tiki hut.

Our young kids aren’t independent bike riders yet, so while we wanted an adventure, we thought this couldn’t be it.

Then I saw the buggy trailers attached to the adult bikes, and Immediately changed my mind.

The JOC staff was friendly and efficient, helping me square away everything—bikes, a buggy for the kids, even snacks and waters for the ride. After waking the kids, we loaded them into the buggy, and off we went on the park’s shaded trails.

The lush cypress forests, wildlife sightings (we spotted many deer!), and smooth, compact shell rock paths made the 1-hour ride perfect for our young crew. For families with slightly older kids, a 2-hour rental would allow more time to explore the nearly 10 miles of trails. It was pure joy watching my kids giggle as we pedaled through Riverbend’s natural paradise, making memories we’ll cherish.

Why JOC Stands Out

As a mom who’s explored countless Treasure Coast activities, JOC’s setup is uniquely family-friendly. Located at 9060 West Indiantown Road, Jupiter, FL, Riverbend Park is a gem—sprawling yet accessible, with plenty of parking and restrooms (pristine, might I add). JOC offers bike, kayak, and canoe rentals, but we loved the bikes for their ease with little ones.

Rentals are affordable ($20/2 hours for bikes), and the staff provides clear guidance, ensuring even first-timers feel confident. We did $10 per bike for 1 hour, which they suggested since it was already 3pm and they closed at 5pm.

The park’s trails are well-maintained, and the buggy trailer option was a lifesaver for my toddlers, keeping them secure while I pedaled. There was no extra cost for the buggy. I also have an infant, so my husband’s bike had a seat attached in the front that was perfect for her. She loved it!

The historical context of the Loxahatchee River Battlefield adds depth, but for families, it’s the wildlife and open space that shine. We didn’t expect to change our plans from Busch Wildlife, but JOC’s tiki hut drew us in and the ready-to-go rentals made it an easy pivot.

I’m super glad we opted for spontaneity this day because we truly enjoyed it! Compared to other local spots like Jonathan Dickinson State Park, Riverbend’s compact yet diverse trails are ideal for shorter family outings.

A Trusted Local Recommendation

At Treasure Coast Mom, we’ve been connecting families with the best of the Treasure Coast since 2023, from Vero Beach to Palm Beach. Our mission is to share authentic, tested recommendations, and JOC checks all the boxes for a family adventure.

Reviews on TripAdvisor echo our experience, which I kinda figured because I’ve heard about this gem before committing to it. Whether you rent or bring your own bike, JOC Is a top outdoor destination to add to your bucket list.

Plan Your Visit with Confidence

JOC is a reliable choice, backed by its long-standing presence in Jupiter and clear pricing on jupiteroutdoorcenter.com. The 1-hour rental was perfect for our family with littles, but 2 hours suits older kids or those wanting to explore deeper into the park’s 15 miles of trails.

A Day in Jupiter Farms

To make the most of your JOC visit, try this family-friendly itinerary:

  • Morning: Start at Blue Ridge Farmers Market, located at 17190 Jupiter Farms Road (check local listings for hours, because it’s only on certain days).
  • Grab a coffee, full breakfast, or a homemade snack, from Rosetta’s Market for a healthy pre-ride fuel-up. Their menu rosettasmarket.com/menu offers kid-friendly options like organic smoothies.
  • Midday: Head to Jupiter Outdoor Center at Riverbend Park (9060 West Indiantown Road). Rent bikes or a buggy for a 1-2 hour ride through shaded trails, spotting deer and birds. Option to canoe or kayak as well.
  • Afternoon: Picnic at one of Riverbend’s chickee huts or pavilions (no reservations needed). If not too tired, afterward, explore nearby Busch Wildlife Sanctuary-Free (2500 Jupiter Park Dr.) for more animal encounters, rounding out a perfect day.

This itinerary sets you up for a full day of family fun, blending local flavors with outdoor adventure!
