Why is Florida’s Treasure Coast a great place to raise kids?
I’ve asked local moms and here’s what they said:
First
The weather on Florida’s Treasure Coast allows us to be outside year round.
You are probably thinking that’s obvious, but think about this—you get back all the time you would waste gearing up layer after layer during cold months, which means less time spent wrestling little kids to get dressed, and putting on those puffy jackets that you’re supposed to take off in the car seat anyway.
In other words, there’s less work doing the routine things, like shoveling snow to exit the driveway, and more time spent on the actual activity that you want to do. This leads to my next point, on what parents love about raising kids on the Treasure Coast.
The Treasure Coast has significantly less traffic than the rest of South Florida.
Not to say that this couldn’t change with time, but currently our roads are less packed than our southern neighbors in Palm Beach County. With that being said, any attraction or event located in Palm Beach County and Broward County is within 45 minutes to 90 minutes from us.
There is an abundance of amenities in these areas due to a more established population, however, it’s nice to not be surrounded by the congestion at all times.
That’s why living on the Treasure Coast is a little piece of serenity that families are finding so valuable.
The Treasure Coast is near major attractions and theme parks.
You can arrive at Disney world and Universal Studios before your kids even get a chance to say, “Are we there yet?” Being less than 150 miles away; it only takes us two hours to get there. We love surprising the kids when they wake up by being at their favorite place. By the way, did you know that there is a Disney Resort right here in Vero Beach? Find it here: Vero Beach Disney Resort, where you can enjoy a little beach with your magic!
I highly recommend staying here if you are planning a getaway or need a place to stay while exploring your potential new community on the Treasure Coast—and particularly Vero and Waasabo Beach, since the resort is nestled in the middle of these two areas.
The other great thing about being pretty close to Orlando, is that by doing some thoughtful planning during your down time, you can plan a quick and cheap stay-cation.
Check out this blog on how to actually do Disney on a budget. And here is a list of Orlando attractions that honor Florida residents: Orlando Attractions with Florida Resident Discounts
So here’s the thing, I’ve been to Disney countless times. Realizing that some kids only get to go once in their lifetime, (think busy families, or living in other countries,) and some never get to go at all—I can’t help but to think of how lucky I am to have experienced Disney World while growing up.
As a mom, I know my kids think that this is the ultimate vacation. Being able to watch your kids’ dreams come to life, and see the magic of this place through their eyes is enough reason by itself to make living here worth it, even if it’s the most exhausting trip you’ll ever take!
Lastly, moms have agreed that
Parents love raising kids on the Treasure Coast because of the relaxing lifestyle
As mentioned before, this neck of the palm trees is less fast-paced than the rest of South Florida. You won’t see a big “nightlife” here, which makes it more family friendly. The overall feel of Florida’s Treasure Coast is charming and historic. Speaking of historic, check out the oldest house in Suart, part of the Old Colorado Inn– a boutique hotel with adorable cottages!
The best part is that we want to keep it that way! Passionate locals and activists fought for their adored views of sunrises, not high rises. In fact, Martin County has regulations in place that no buildings can be taller than four stories. Read more on that here: Story behind Martin County’s fight over height.
Stuart, located in Martin County, is known as the Sailfish Capital of the World. It was also rated the No.6 spot on Southern Living’s magazine’s, “The South’s Best Small Towns 2022.” You will find the streets of Downtown Stuart celebrating anything and everything, with local businesses coming together to create fun festivals regularly.
Raising kids here means that you have a laidback lifestyle. You can enjoy slowing down and taking in the moments. You have access to the best Treasure Coast Beaches, nature preserves, the ocean, fishing piers, trails, wild-life exhibits and museums, aquariums, Best playgrounds, and pools. Once you visit here, you’ll understand that time kind of stands still.
