As a mom to a preschool child, I understand how important this decision is and how lost you can feel about making the right choice, or what the “best” choice is in your mind!
This article will highlight St. Lucie Public School district specifically
Also, it’s important to remember that as you seek out advice, every parent you talk to will have their own personal experiences.
These experiences can vary greatly from person to person, so it’s important to consider multiple perspectives and make the decision that feels right for your child and family.
Taking the first step:
SLPS district has a unique assignment system, which can sometimes be confusing.
- SLPS uses an open-enrollment system, allowing parents to select from various schools close to their residence.
- Schools are divided into Zones based on your zip code. From those schools in your zone, you can choose your top three preferences.
- The district will then assign your child a school in your Zone from the options you have chosen.
Zoning Map
The district provides an interactive map to help parents determine school zones based on their address. To find out which schools are within your zone, you can explore the Zoning map here.
- Visit the St. Lucie Public Schools website to explore your options and start the application process.
- Reach out to the Student Assignment Office if you have any questions or need assistance during the discovery and application process.

- High School Enrollment: January 1st – January 31st
- Early Enrollment K-8: January 1st – January 31st
- Open Enrollment K-8: March 1st – March 31st

PreK Programs: SLPS provides a Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) program, a free educational initiative designed for 4-year-olds to help them succeed in school.
However, not all public schools offer VPK. Below, you’ll find a list of schools in each zone that do provide this program.
Please note that the application process is lengthy, and due to the high volume of applications, securing a spot is not guaranteed.
Unfortunately, there are limited public school options available with a VPK program. Your child might be put on a waitlist, and you will most likely have to find alternate solutions.

Alternate Solutions to SLPS:
If your child was not accepted to a VPK program in the public school system, there are several daycares in our county, or churches & preschools that may offer VPK.
However, most of the preschools are private and might not accept the VPK voucher, which understandably can get costly.
